Hello folks, I am going to start touching on several different subjects that pertain to my perspective as an artist. This first one is about current projects I’m working on. Read on to learn more about it….

After working several months on a kind of dramatic painting of which I have entitled “Widow’s Watch”, I’ve have concluded that I’ve still got a lot more work to do. (Ugh) However, I think I can finally see a light at the end of the tunnel. And, I think it’s going to be amazing when I’m finished! That being said, I am ready to branch out in a new direction. Yes, I am going to do a study by Rembrandt in Oil. You’re probably asking yourself, “doesn’t she paint with acrylics”? And, you’d be right! I am going to reach beyond my comfort zone and experiment with oil, because it seems to me to be a little easier to manipulate than acrylics when it comes to doing a portrait. By switching, maybe this will aid in future portraits. At first I was a little apprehensive, because there are a few things you can’t control with oil (Ms. control freak here) needless to say, it’s been a slow process. I’ve only repainted each feature several times over with many more to go… LOL Thankfully, one thing about me is that I keep on trying until I get it right, even if it means obsessing over it in my sleep. (Ha) Some of you have asked where I get my inspiration from; Well, many of my ideas come from my husband. Sometimes, a project can turn into something completely different just by tweaking one small thing, or an idea from a sketch evolves into something else entirely. Completing a project is like finishing a good book, I am delighted to have accomplished another art piece and I also look forward to the next adventure. Sometimes, even I don’t know what’s waiting just around the corner… Life can be very unpredictable when your an artist. Thanks for reading. Until next time, take care ~ Mary Kay
